Jason Chavez joins the Cape Catfish coaching staff for the 2023 summer season.

Coach Chavez after a recent Indians win

The Cape Catfish bring on Jason Chavez to complete the coaching staff for the 2023 team.

Chavez was a standout at Cape Central HS and went on to pitch at Mineral Area College and at SIU-Carbondale where he starred for the Salukis. He was Drafted in the 43rd of 2002 MLB draft by the San Francisco Giants but he opted to stay and finish up his college career. He had 12 outstanding seasons with the Cape Capahas and he was inducted into the semi pro Baseball Hall of Fame in 2021. On most days you can find coach Chavez somewhere near the Jackson Indians baseball team as he is the current pitching coach for the high school.

Catfish GM remarked, “I have known Jason for many years and appreciate his love for the game of baseball. He was a fine player and his coaching style should be perfect for our players.”

Chavez joins Field Manager Scott Little and Assistant Coach Brayden Lackey to round out the Catfish coaching staff for the 2023 summer season.

We are excited to welcome Jason Chavez to the Catfish family!
