Rockabillys score late to even season series

Jackson Tenn – June 18th, 2026
The hottest team in the prospect league and winners of 11 out of their last 12 games, the Cape Catfish had a chance to clinch the 1st half and bury their rivals to the south, the Jackson Rockabillys. For much of the game it looked like that would be the case but a late rally by the Billys keeps them alive.
Jackson Gamble(Oral Roberts University) one of the leagues elite arms came in with a 3-0 record and a minascule 1.16 era. He didn’t have his best stuff but he battled through four innings. Kaden Wilks in his first at bat at home hit a solo home run in the 2nd to make it 1-0 Jackson. Wilkes would get an rbi single an inning later to make it a 2-0 lead but that would be short lived.
The Catfish as they’ve done all year take a minute to get warmed up. In the top of the 4th Nate Dorinsky(Seton Hill University) hit a deep fly ball that would score Cory Wouters(Winthrop University) from first base with the first Catfish run. Jackson Jones(SIU Carbondale) would single up the middle to tie the game at two.
It would remain a pitchers duel the next three innings as Chapman Ogles(Jefferson College) came into the game in the top of the 5th and held the Billys scoreless for two and two-thirds. Noah Johnson(SIUE) came in the game to relieve Ogles and get the final out in the 7th.
The Catfish squandered a bases loaded no outs opportunity in the 5th but finally plated a run in the 7th on a two out double from one of the hottest hitters in the league, Hayden Nazarenus who just committed to play at Southeast Missouri State.
It looked like a typical Catfish come from behind win but in the top of the 8th, Johnson ran into trouble. A one out walk, an error, a wild pitch and a single would give the Rockabillys a 4-3 lead and that’s how the game would end. The Catfish are 16-5 and will host the Thrillville Thrillbillies tonight at Capaha Park at 6:35pmct on salute to veterans night at the ballpark. The Rockabillys will be home all weekend as they take on the Springfield Luck Horseshoes in a three game series.
Catfish Highlights: David Kessler(Indiana Univ at PA) and Jaxon Jones both collected two hits for the Catfish while Wouters added a triple. On the bump Jackson Gamble went four innings allowing two earned on three hits and three walks, striking out seven. Ogles went 2.2 innings, his longest outing of the summer, allowing three hits, walking two and striking out three but kept his ERA at 0.00. neither Gamble or Ogles would factor in the decison. Noah Johnson gives up his first runs of the summer, although both unearned, he takes the loss and is 0-1 on the summer.
