Danville Streak Reaches 10 With Win Over Cape

Danville, IL July 15 – The Danville Dans and Cape Catfish continued their streaks Friday night. The Dans defeated Cape 8-4 to extend their winning streak to 10 while the loss was the sixth straight for the Catfish, one shy of their franchise-record seven-game losing streak in June.

With the win, the Dans also became the first Prospect League team to reach the 30-win plateau this season with an overall record of 30-9 (8-0 in the second half of their 2022 schedule). Meanwhile, the Catfish dropped to 14-25, 2-6 since the start of the second half earlier this month.

Southeast Missouri State’s Tanner Mueller (0-3) started the game for the Catfish and took the loss, going 1 2/3 innings, allowing four runs on four hits – two singles and two doubles – all in the second inning.

The Catfish answered with two in the third thanks to a pair of walks and a two-RBI single by West Virginia State’s Andrew Sharp. Cape also scored in the fourth on an infield single off the bat of Chris Hall (Florida State College at Jacksonville) that cut the Danville lead to 4-3.

However, the Dans plated three in the fifth on a two-out RBI single by the University of Alabama’s Will Portera, and consecutive bases-loaded walks issued to Trey Higgins III from Mississippi State and Will Carpenter from Wichita State, increasing the Danville lead to 7-3.

Cape plated a run in the seventh on an RBI sacrifice fly by Dante Zamudio (West Virginia State), but Danville answered with an RBI double by Folsom Lake College’s Drake Digiorno in the eighth making the final score 8-4.

Danville starter Braylon Myers improved his record to 3-0, allowing five hits and three runs while striking out two and walking four in his five innings of work.

The Catfish return to Cape’s Capaha Field Saturday for a 6:35 p.m. game against REX Baseball from Terre Haute, Indiana. REX is currently riding a three-game winning streak including a 10-3 win over the Catfish Thursday night.
