Catfish Keep Rolling

Cape Girardeau, MO – Tuesday July 1st, 2025

The Catfish showed their resilience by surging past the Jackson Rockabillys despite trailing
midway through the matchup to kickoff the second half of the season Tuesday at Capaha Field. The pithing was god but the offense of the Fish was even better as they cruised late to an 11-4 victory over their division rivals.

The seventh inning stretch was crucial to the team’s success as they plated five runs on
three hits, including singles from Nathan Bowie (Harding University) and Hayden Nazarenus
(Western Kentucky University). The Fish led 9-5 after seven innings and plated two more in the 8th with a two-run double from Matthew Cash (Jacksonville State) who tallied four hits in the contest.

Cape wasted no time getting on the board in the bottom of the first when Cash doubled to bring
home Owen Henne (Seton Hill). Newly named All Star, Nathan Bowie (Harding University) thenblasted a solo shot to right center to put the Fish up 2-0.

The Rockabillies took a 4-2 lead after scoring three in the fourth and adding another run in the fifth. The Catfish answered back with two in the bottom of the sixth, the big blow coming off the bat of Sam Richardson (Jacksonville State) to tie the game at 4-4.

The Catfish lead the league in almost every offensive category and they built on that tonight racking up an insane 16 hits with Cash going 4 for 5 and Bowie, Nazarenus, and Caleb Champion (Southeast Missouri State University) adding two hits of their own.

A huge offensive is nothing without pitchers to maintain the lead, and Tuesday’s game was a
testament to that as several players did big things on the mound for Cape in the outing. Dylan
Peck (Barry University) started the night off on the mound for the Catfish and threw six
strikeouts while only allowing three runs, one earned before being relieved by Larson McMaster (Erskine
College) in the top of the fifth inning.

McMaster and Luis Pezzotti (Oakland City University) both struck out one pitching 2.1 and 1 innings respectively. Ranard Grace, who recently signed with Southeast Missouri State University, struckout 2 batters in .2 innings. All-Star pitcher Walker Brodt (Winthrop University) who hasn’t seen action in over a week, needed to blow the dust off and that he did. Brodt struckout all three Rockabilly hitters allowing one single in 15 pitches.

It will be a long week on the road for the Fish as they start off in Dubois County on Wednesday
facing off against the Bombers. From there they travel to Chillicothe to face the
Paints for two and will make their longest trek so far this season to play the Johnstown, Pennsylvania
Mill Rats on Friday and Saturday. The Catfish will be back home in front of their fans Wednesday July 9th after the All-Star break.
