Catfish Get Their First Win of the 2024 Season
Strong pitching and timely hitting bets Catfish their first win
Cape Girardeau, MO (May 31st, 2024) – The Catfish had their arch rival roll into town and the weather was looking pretty grim on Friday night. Even with 16 strikeouts for the second time in three games, the Catfish managed to get new Catfish head coach Phil Butler his first win of the 2024 season. “It wasn’t easy, said head coach Phil Butler. “In the end we finally were able to string together some key hits and our bullpen was lights out.”
kam Dohogne, the local pitcher from Notre Dame high school, got the starting nod for the Catfish. he pitched five innings allowing only 1 earned run to the best hitting team in the league. He craved up the Thrillbillies for striking out three and allowing only one earned on five hits. He left after five with the score tied 3-3. That’s when Walker Brodt, the freshman from Winthrop took the mound and he shut down the Thrillbillies. Brodt faced eight hitters and struck out six of them not allowing a run in his first outing of the season. “My fastball felt really good but my slider was my best pitch tonight,” said Brodt.
The Catfish would score two in the bottom of the 7th to take a 5-3 lead and then would tack on another two in the 9th to give them a 7-4 win. Their first of the summer. The play of the game may have been in the top of the 8th with the Catfish clinging to a 5-4 lead, Jackson Lindsey, the big bomber for the Thrill, launched a ball 375 that just bounced off the top of the wall. Schneider played it well and threw a bullet to his teammate Henley Parker who threw a bullet to Catfish catcher Carson McCaleb who made a great tag keeping the score at 5-4 and giving the Catfish all the momentum.
The Catfish still have some things to clean up as they committed two errors again this evening and striking out 16 times. Regardless they were able to get eight hits and plate seven runs and Catfish pitchers punched out 12 Thrillbillies. Walker Brodt (1-0), gets his first Catfish win and Arlon Butts who showed up today from Arkansas State gets his first save of the young season.
The Catfish are back in action as they travel to Jackson, TN for the second time in 4 days hoping to exact a little revenge on the Rockabillys who won Thursday night 3-0. Then the Catfish will be back home Sunday, game time 4:05. grab your tickets at capecatfish.com.
