Catfish add Colin Butkiewicz to their staff
CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO – December 12, 2024
The Cape Catfish add a former Prospect League player with local ties to their coaching staff for the 2025 season. Newly hired head coach Gary McClure knew the first thing he had to do was build his staff for the upcoming summer. He went with someone he was familiar with and trusted. “I’m real excited to have Colin join me here in Cape,” said head coach Gary McClure. “He played for me and I’ve known him for many years and he’s excited about coming.”
Butkiewicz is from Greendale Wisconsin and played for Coach McClure in 2017 and 2018 when McClure was coaching the Kokomo Indiana Jackrabbits who were members of the Propsect League at that time. Butkiewicz was the catcher and he helped McClure’s Jackrabbits win the Prospect League Championship in 2018.
Butkiewicz was a highly touted catcher coming out of high school in Wsconsin, he signed with the Univeristy of Houston in 2015. He redshirted his freshman year and found his way to John A Logan where he caught for 2 seasons for one of the elite Juco’s in the country. From there he played one season with Western Kentucky University and then back to Carbondale where he caught his senior season for the Salukis in 2019 and was a Johnny Bench finalist that year.
After college Butkiewicz played professionally for the New Jersey Jackals and the Milwaukee Milkmen. He started his coaching career in 2022 at Milwaukee Area Technical College where he has served as their hitting coach for two seasons and pitching coach for one season.
“I’m excited about coaching in Cape Girardeau this summer,” said asst. coach Colin Butkeiwicz. “I’ve been coaching for 4 years but this will be my first summer of coaching college baseball. Getting to coach under coach McClure makes even better.”
“We’re real excited to have this young man join Coach McClure this summer,” said Catfish GM Mark Hogan. “He played at a high level in college and a couple years of pro ball and he’s been coaching for 3 seasons as well.”
The Catfish start play this year on Tuesday May 27th when the entire Prospect League kicks of their summer season. The Catfish plan to add at least one more coach to their staff before the summer.
