Catfish Salute Local Veterans

Catfish come out flat vs Thrillville

Cape Girardeau, MO – June 19, 2026

The Cape Catfish organization and it’s fans for the 4th year in a row held Veterans Night at Capaha Field Friday night. The opening ceremonies that saw a World War II Vet, Elsworth Slater, a Korean War Vet, Johnny Vavak and Vietnam War Vet Frank Lee throw out the ceremonial 1st pitch. The veterans threw strikes and were applauded by a crowd of over 1,000 fans who waved mini flags and cheered on the three veterans.

The opening ceremonies were perfect, the weather was outstanding and the crowd was electric, the only thing missing were the Cape Catfish players. For only the second time this summer in 22 games, the catfish were outplayed. From the opening pitch, Kam Dohogne (Columbia University) who was signed earlier that day to a temp contract, was hit around the first couple innings allowing the Thrillbillies to get off to a 5-0 lead after three innings.

The Catfish struck for four runs in the bottom of the 4th inning and that would be all they would get as Thrillville starter, Carter Wooliums (2-1) went 6 1/3 and for the most part kept the catfish from doing damage. Sam Foulke came out of the bullpen and shut out the catfish the final 1 2/3 as the game ended because of the 10 run mercy rule after 8 innings.

A disspointing effort for the best team in the Prospect legue up until the last few nights. “That was certainly unexpected,” said team President Glenn Campbell. “This team has been incredible so far this summer and we didn’t see this one coming but that’s baseball.”

The Catfish took a 16-4 record into Jackson TN Thursday night with a chance to clinch the 1st half but some baserunning mistakes and an error nd some late inning heroics by the Rockabillys kept the catfish clincher on ice. The catfish came into Friday night’s contest with a magic # of 5 and that’s still the magic number as Jackson moved to within a game and a half of the lead.

The Fish will be back at it tonight in marion as they try and get a little revenge for last night’s embarrassing 15-4 loss. Game time is 7:00pm ct,
