Catfish Secure Thrilling Victory in Second Annual Jorts Classic
In the second ever Jorts Classic against the Dubois County Bombers, the Catfish were victorious yet again, this time on home turf. Cape strutted into a thrilling 6-1 win while players from both teams sported jean shorts and tall socks in a friendly faceoff.
Early Bombers Lead, Catfish Heat Up
The Bombers got their bats cracking first, taking an early 1-0 lead in the first inning. The Fish took a few innings to warm up, but boy did they get hot.
- Cooper Newsom (Harding University) answered their run when he stepped into the box and rattled a huge three-run homer to bring the Fish up to a 3-1 lead.
- Matthew Cash (Jacksonville State) kept the offense rolling in the fifth, delivering a RBI single and adding another run to the board.
- Caleb Niehaus (Indiana State University) singled to bring home Brett Vondohlen (Middle Tennessee State University).
- Niehaus was hot as he was able to reach on a fielder’s choice in the 8th inning and bring in yet another run.
Denim-Dependable Defense and Stellar Pitching
Cape displayed an infield as dependable as your favorite pair of denim. With the persistent defensive efforts of the Catfish, the Bombers saw their only run of the night in the first inning. The game was won at the mound by Larson McMaster (Erskine College) who allowed 0 runs from the twelve batters he faced.
Ricky Howell (Wabash Valley College) started on the mound and threw three strikeouts in three innings before being relieved. Zach Herb (Seton Hill University) and Trey O’Neil (Southern Indiana University) came in for two and one innings respectively and tallied an additional five strikeouts.
Bowie’s Spectacular Robbery Highlights the Night
Fans were hooping and hollering in the top of the 7th when Nathan Bowie (Harding University) exhibited the most impressive play of the night. Dubois County was ready for vengeance as a batter stepped into the box and gave the ball enough gas to reach the top of the fence in left field. Bowie came flying through the air and robbed the homer just before flying out of the park to tally the second out of the inning and get the crowd going.
Looking Ahead
The Catfish return to Capaha Saturday night with hopes to get another win to round out the week. No rest for the wicked as the Fish are right back at it with yet another home game against the Bombers Tuesday Night for Bark in the Park.
