Sparks Fly as the Catfish win on the road for the 4th of July

Jacksonville State’s Matthew Cash Shines at 3B in Catfish Victory

Johnstown, PA – Friday, July 4th, 2025 – Reagan Howe

Hitting the road for the 4th of July, the Catfish put on their own display of explosives with an insane offensive performance against the Johnstown, PA Mill Rats. It was a star-spangled slugfest as the Fish delivered big hits to secure the win.

Early Lead for the Catfish

The Catfish set the tone early in the game when Matthew Cash (Jacksonville State) drilled one into center field for a triple, bringing home Owen Henne (Seton Hill) to put the team on the board. The Mill Rats were quick to answer the first run, but they were quickly overtaken by a two-run homer in the fourth from Wilser Then (Cumberland University) and an RBI single from Nathan Bowie (Harding University) to make it 5-1 Catfish.

Catfish Offense Explodes in the Seventh

The Fish had a huge seventh inning, exploding for a total of six runs. Sam Richardson (Jacksonville State) was hit by a pitch with bases loaded, followed by a two-run single from Caleb Champion (Southeast Missouri State), along with a few errors from the Mill Rats, made the score 11-2 Catfish.

Brodt Closes Out the Game

The Mill Rats attempted a comeback, capitalizing on Catfish relievers issuing too many walks, but Coach Mac called on “The Finisher,” Walker Brodt (Winthrop University), to close out the game.

Solid Pitching Performance

Sean Williams (Seton Hall) started the game and threw a solid 4.2 innings, striking out two batters and only allowing 2 runs. He was relieved by Zach Herb (Seton Hill University), who threw an additional 2.1 innings and contributed another strikeout to the count.

Looking Ahead

Game two of the series will be tomorrow night in Johnstown as the Fish will look for the sweep before packing up and heading back to Chillicothe to close out the five-game road trip. The Prospect League All-Star break will give the Catfish some much-needed rest before opening up at Capaha Wednesday night.
